First Fermi Cards to be GTX 480 and GTX 470

The first Fermi cards to be released are now set to be named the GeForce GTX 480 and the GeForce GTX 470. Naturally, the 480 (being the bigger number) is the beefier GPU and is therefore more expensive. It is now also known that the 300 series branding is reserved for Nvidia’s new DirectX 10.1 chips hence the 480 and 470 instead.

With the launch date to be in March, the exact date unknown, some rumours have it that partners will be able to display Fermi cards at CeBit albeit in closed boxes heavily guarded by nvidia. Performance figures still remain very much top secret information though and it seems we will have to wait until launch day to see how Nvidia’s Fermi competes with AMDs DirectX 11 cards.
