AMD To Drop TDP of Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz

The arrival of the Phenom II X4 965 was heralded as a great success making it the fastest process on the market in terms of core speed coming in a 3.4GHz and replacing the 955 BE at 3.2GHz. However, with a Thermal Design Power of 140W, many users were less than pleased as cooling the CPU becomes that much harder; even the high performing core i7 range of CPUs have a lower TDP of 130W.

The 955 BE too is set for an update with AMD hopeful of releasing the processor again, this time with a TDP of just 95W, a 30W decrease! Clearly, this sounds very impressive but it is not yet understood whether it will affect overclocking and so we await the arrival of the new CPU in Q2 2010.

what fan would you recommend with this?

Well you would need a decent cooler to counter the 140W TDP so I would suggest something like the Noctua NH-U12P which uses the NF-P12 or perhaps the Thermalright TRUE.
